As long as he doesn't start cooking with Nascar-branded meat, we're OK. ;)

I'm a Mario Batali fan, but...

Senor Batali is just appealing to the largest American spectator sport to pad his bank account. NASCAR actually approached him to write the book based on his popularity...and to hawk their new venture. OCTANE is a $50 million concept created to cater to the "wealthier NASCAR fans". If he wanted a "peer" audience, he should cook for Formula 1 fans, whose taste and affluence would be far more lucrative. NASCAR palates aren't quite attuned to the style of Mario's cuisine. Oddly enough, the stuff in the cookbook isn't what's being served in the new restaurant.

As an official NASCAR apologist of livejournal, I have to say NASCAR has gained a bit of a white collar following lately. Granted, the majority are stereotypical NASCAR, but I just had to get that out there.

My apologies for implying a stereotype. Actually, one of my oldest and dearest friends, Wynette Williams, is the former business manager for the Int'l Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum in Talladega. I've attended many induction ceremonies at the museum. Back in March of 2000, I was a cat's whisker away from going to work for Don Naman as a member of the promotions staff for the Talladega Superspeedway Guest Services program. Family matters prevented me from accepting.

Wonder what it says about me that when I saw the subject, I thought it was about Mario from Super Mario Brothers.

I am glad I'm not the only one who thought about *little* Mario when I saw the subject:-)
